Book in Leogang
If you and your family are looking for a really good ski holiday to Austria, Leogang is a very good option. The ski resort Leogang, sometimes also referred to as Saalfelden Leogang due to its proximity to the town of Saalfelden, is a ski resort in western Austria in the district of Zell am See. For many years, the resort has been popular for winter sports, but also for cycling during the summer. Trekking and camping are also common here. A long time ago Leogang was primarily a mining town, nowadays the town is known for its varied activities.
It is easy to understand why so many people choose to go on a ski holiday to Leogang. The ski resort is part of the Skicircus ski system together with Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Fieberbrunn and therefore has access to 270 kilometers of pistes and 70 lifts and can thus offer fantastic skiing with enormous variety for everyone. The slopes are varied, from easy for beginners to difficult for the experienced skier. In addition to the slopes themselves, there are good mogul skiing, competition slopes and illuminated slopes, so you can go skiing even in the evening.
Leogang is probably the quietest ski resort within the Skicircus area. Here you don't have the same lively après ski that Saalbach is known for but there is no shortage of options, there are a number of cozy bars and restaurants to choose from although the nightlife is limited. For those who want to party a little longer and stay up a bit after midnight, there is, for example, Bar Outback.
In addition to quiet and relaxing days at the spa, there are many fun winter activities that don't include skiing. Other activities such as hiking with snowshoes, ice skating or tobogganing can also be enjoyed. Leogang offers lots of fun events, for example the "Mountain Bike World Cup" is held here and also several music events every year.
Flying to Innsbruck is also a good option. From here it is a 30 to 40 minute longer drive to Leogang compared to Salzburg, but with good road conditions it takes less than two hours by car.
It is also quite possible to fly to Munich. From Munich's Franz Josef Strauss airport, it takes just under three hours by car. Since it is further away, and the airport is in another country, there are of course fewer transfer options, so renting your own car is recommended.
The thing to think about in terms of time is that if you come to Salzburg or Innsbruck by plane, you must first get from the airport to the train station, so if you feel that you are short on time or have a lot of luggage with you, it is not certain that the train option is suitable. However, you can find very cheap train tickets, for example a train ticket from Salzburg to Leogang can cost as little as around 15 euros for a one-way trip.
