The name Hinterglemm is a name that sounds familiar to many skiers but is perhaps primarily known because it is included in the name when it is mentioned in connection with its "big brother" Saalbach, normally named as Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Hinterglemm is a village that is in the same municipality as Saalbach, but in reality, they are two separated villages with a barely 10-minute drive between them.

We choose to separate the two as ski resorts, but if you are looking to spend your ski holiday in Saalbach, Hinterglemm should be seen as a good alternative as they are both part of the same ski system. There are also plenty of restaurants, bars, hotels and other accommodation to in Hinterglemm to be explored before choosing where to spend your ski holiday.

The neighbour Saalbach is very famous for its fantastic après ski, and you certainly miss a bit of that if you choose Hinterglemm instead, but for some it can rather be an advantage as you avoid some of the commotion that après ski can involve. In addition, you can easily get to Saalbach if you feel up for a bit of partying.

Hinterglemm is located higher up than Saalbach

Saalbach och Hinterglemm is part of Skicircus, a larger ski area that also includes the ski resorts of Fieberbrunn and Leogang as well, and the entire area has 270 kilometers of pistes and 70 lifts. An advantage of Hinterglemm is that the village is located slightly higher up than Saalbach and you can start the skiing day in three different directions up the mountains and your skiing starts in slightly snowier areas, and you can have a great variety on which slopes you start the day on from day to day.

It is also in Hinterglemm that you find one of the two lifts that have night skiing in Skicircus, the other is in Leogang. If you are interested in night skiing in Hinterglemm, the A9 Unterschwarzach lift is the one you go to, and is basically in the middle of the village in a southern direction.

In Hinterglemm there is also the Family Park U-Bahn, a free ride area for both children and adults with various jumps and other fun you can challenge the children with. The Family Park can be found by the A9 Unterschwarzach lift, same as where the night skiing is.
