Mayrhofen, Austria

Mayrhofen is located in the Zillertal in Tyrol, one of Austria's biggest and best ski areas. Zillertal valley usually has excellent snow conditions thanks to the Hintertux glacier and high altitude. The village is located at about 650 meters above sea level, but the skiing is up to 3,250 meters. The glacier also offers summer skiing.

Mayrhofen is a very nice mountain village that has a great range of skiing, restaurants, cozy village streets and lots of activities on offer. The valley is surrounded by high mountain peaks and the views are absolutely stunning.

The Zillertal ski system, where Mayrhofen is the main ski resort, offers in total 640 kilometers of pistes and 170 ski lifts. The system is not fully interlinked, but one travels easily with the ski bus between areas. One area is also accessible by a special ski shuttle train, which does not cost extra if you hold a valid lift pass.

There are mixed skiing for all levels of skiers, from wide carving slopes to Austria's steepest ski slope Harakiri. The angle is 78 degrees – so only try it out if you are an advanced skier. There are about 70 blue / green slopes, 90 red and 25 black runs. The area Ahorn suits families with children best.

For those who like to jump and do tricks you will find one of the biggest and best snow parks in the Alps: the Vans Penken Park.

Activities in Mayrhofen/Zillertal

There are plenty of fun things to do when your legs need a rest. For example, you could try of the 16 bob tracks, take an invigorating bath (erlebnistherme-zillertal.at) or try the roller coaster that has been built on the snow (arenacoaster.at). Finish the day with a drink in the igloo bar at the top of the Ahorn system in White Lounge. (white-lounge.at).

For those who seek classic Austrian after ski entertainment there are endless options. The tricky part is to decide what place to go to as there are so many. Ice Bar , Brück'n Stadl and Arena are some of the most popular places.

Hotels and pensions in Mayrhofen / Zillertal

Since Zillertal is a large area there are numerous options regarding accommodation in the different parts of the valley. As in many places in Austria the smaller family owned hotels and guesthouses are most frequent. Count on that you may have to walk to the ski lift from your accommodation, usually a few hundred meters.
