Courmayeur, Italy

Courmayeur is the Italian cousin to Chamonix, situated on the other side of the Mont Blanc massif all the way at the rear of the Aosta Valley, just where the Mont Blanc tunnel starts on the Italian side. However, Chamonix and Courmayeur are still quite different. The Italian sense of taking it easy mized with great Italian cuisine turns Courmayeur into a very popular holiday ski resort.

Courmayeur village is cozy and has lots of cafés and restaurants. The dining experience could be almost as rewarding as the skiing experience. Dining experience is probably as big as skiing experience.

Here you will find great slopes for all levels. It is also possible to get off the slopes and head out into the Mont Blanc massif and then ski back down the valley. Take the lift up to Punta Helbronner (Point Helbronner) and throw yourself out behind the warning sign and down the black slope Toula - known as one of the Alps' best off-piste runs.

If you want to book your ski holiday to Courmayeur, either check out what the tour operators have to offer or combine your own flight, accommodation and transfer into your own ski package. If you search for flight tickets, try the Italian side first for the cheapest travel options. Milan, Bergamo or Turin are closest. Continue by rental car or airport transfer. Count on a few hours in the car as the roads can become crowded at period.

You could theoretically also fly in to Geneva, which is close. To Chamonix it only takes about an hour but you face the high toll of the Mont Blanc tunnel, as well as potential traffic jams.
