Many people associate the Alps with steep slopes, busy night life and impeccable luxury. There are however good options also for families with children. The Alps are full of places to visit, even for families with very young children.

1. Bad Gastein

Bad Gastein is a real favourite for many families. This ski resort offers skiing and activities for all members of the family. The ski lift system is large, the snow conditions are generally good and there are ski slopes to suit skiers of all levels. For beginners and young children alike there is a well-known school with multi-lingual instructors. The cosy village offers good restaurants that cater for the needs of families and there is also a swimming pool, Alpenterme Gasteinett, with a luxurious spa for the parents as well as a hot tub for the children.

2. Davos

Davos is a good option for a family that seeks quality. This town is considerably larger than other ski resorts. It has a population of around 15,000 and offers a wide range of activities. There is a great swimming pool with a section for children, well worth visiting. For the teenager there are several discos, good cafées and fun shopping. The skiing experience will suit most. The ski lifts are modern and there are slopes to suit skiers of all abilities. The majority of the slopes are however family friendly and there are numerous cosy places to relax during the day. Enjoy a good lunch or a cup of hot cocoa and relax in the sun.

3. Saas Fee

The cosy ski resort of Saas Fee is calm, beautiful and virtually car-free. Here you can enjoy fresh air, first class snow and fun for the entire family. There are many slopes to suit the entire family. Beginners will find many easy slopes to practice on but there are also challenging pistes to have a go at as well as an excellent off-piste area. Saas Fee also offers attractions such as an ice cavern, a large number of family-oriented restaurants and several cinemas.

4. Serre Chevalier

A treasure for the family where you will find beautiful weather and good snow conditions. Serre Chevalier is located in the southern parts of the French Alps. There is a good mixture of ski slopes with a lot of blue pistes to suit children and beginners. The sun shines around 300 days a year. If you need to rest from skiing for a day, you can do excursions in the surrounding area.

5. Bad Kleinkirchheim

Bad Kleinkirchheim in Austria is a classic ski destination for families. Here you will find ski slopes to suit both beginners and more advanced skiers. There are however few extremely steep slopes. The prices are generally good and if you book early you can get a real bargain. The sun usually shines and the nature is striking. The nature reserve of Nockberge that surrounds Bad Kleinkirchheim is perfect for an excursion or a day of cross-country skiing.

6. Val d’Isère

The French ski resort of Val d’Isere, bordering to the off-piste paradise of Tignes, is a good destination for a family. It has a rumour to be a luxurious ski resorts, but it does offer something for all visitors and doesn’t necessarily cost more than any other ski resorts. There are many slopes to choose from and the ski lift system has good coverage and condition.
